Josefa de Óbidos Exhibition in London
Presented alongside talks and scholarly initiatives, the exhibition contributes to a week-long programme exploring the international legacy of Portuguese Baroque art
On 2 July 2026, the Embassy of Portugal in London will host the exhibition Josefa de Óbidos and the Portuguese Baroque: Selected Works from the Gaudium Magnum Collection.
Visitors will have the opportunity to join one of three short visits taking place throughout the day, at 10.30 am, 11.30 am, and 2.00 pm.
The exhibition brings together three works by Josefa de Óbidos alongside a painting by her father, Baltazar Gomes Figueira. Rarely seen outside Portugal, these works from the Gaudium Magnum Collection offer visitors an opportunity to explore the artistic milieu in which Josefa developed her distinctive visual language and established herself as one of the most important painters of the Portuguese Baroque.
Presented as part of the Gaudium Magnum Foundation’s London programme dedicated to Josefa de Óbidos and the Portuguese Baroque, the exhibition reflects the Foundation’s commitment to advancing the study and international visibility of Portuguese cultural heritage. Hosted at the Embassy of Portugal, it offers a unique opportunity to encounter key works of the Portuguese Baroque within a setting dedicated to the promotion of Portuguese culture abroad.
