Giuseppe Porzio

Associate Professor of Modern Art History at the Università di Napoli L’Orientale

Giuseppe Porzio (1976) is Associate Professor of Modern Art History at the Università di Napoli L’Orientale, where he coordinates the Master’s Degree Course in Humanistic Knowledge and Digital Technologies. He is also a member of the Doctorate College in Art History at La Sapienza Università in Rome.

His scholarly interests centre around painting in central and southern Italy from the 16th to the 18th centuries, with a particular focus on naturalistic trends and the presence of foreign artists. His more important works include the monographs La scuola di Ribera (Naples 2014) and Carlo Sellitto (Naples 2019), and he has also edited Fritz Saxl’s essays on Aniello Falcone (Naples 2021). In the context of his research, he has curated a number of exhibitions, including, in particular, Artemisia Gentileschi in Naples (in conjunction with Antonio Ernesto Denunzio; Naples, Gallerie d’Italia, 2022–2023).
