Gianni Papi

Art historian specialising in Caravaggesque painting

Gianni Papi is an expert of Caravaggio and the – Italian and foreign – Caravaggesque painters who worked in Rome and Naples. In identifying Ribera’s early period in Rome and attributing over seventy paintings to him, he has increased our knowledge and understanding of Ribera and the artistic circle in which the artist played the leading role. Papi has written numerous articles for major journals and monographs on a considerable number of artists, as well as curating exhibitions of international scope and importance.
